Hi, my name is Andreas Finke, and last August I was diagnosed with Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer.
Although thyroid cancers, in general, are considered mild, low-risk and treatable, Anaplastic is considered the very worst type. It is known to have a less than 4% survival rate. In addition, it is a very rare strain of thyroid cancer, as only 600 patients a year are diagnosed in the United States. Unlike the most common thyroid cancers; Papillary, Follicular and Medullary (which can be treated with radio-active iodine), Anaplastic calls for an aggressive plan of radiation and chemotherapy, and even with those methods, survival time is measured in weeks, months at best.
After my surgery to remove an enormous tumor, I was soon given my diagnosis. I became very depressed and anxious about what the future held. The doctors didn't attempt to sugar-coat the effects of my treatment. Part of my stress came from anticipating the pain and discomfort from the very painful treatment itself (nausea, severely burned throat resulting in my inability to swallow, and consequent implantation of a feeding tube).
At the time, my mother was a client of Positive Changes, and I tagged along one day as she was going in for her weekly hypnosis session. We explained my situation to the staff and asked if they had any type of program that could help me with my situation.
My evaluator, who was very sweet and professional, listened intently and offered me the 'Mind Over Cancer' package. It was a nine week course, which included five personal sessions and several acceleration classes.
I listened to my personal session CDs regularly. I estimated that I listened five times per night (as they were only 30 min. long), without fail, for ten weeks. The depressing thoughts ceased immediately and were soon replaced with a sense of ease and motivation that I hadn't known for a long time. My wife even commented on the return of my sense of humor.
About three weeks ago, I gave Positive Changes a testimonial about how I felt the program was working and how my attitude had changed for the better, etc...
I am now happy to report that as of last Tuesday, I was given a clean bill of health from this rare, insidious and cruel disease. I believe in my heart that I have you to thank, as this disease is known to not respond well to even very aggressive chemo/radiation therapy. My doctors were pleasantly surprised.
I have also been on the website of a Yahoo/Anaplastic support group and have touted the benefits of Positive Changes to the rest of the group, which consists of patients and family members.
Like I said, I have given a testimonial before, but now I am officially in remission and if there is anything I can do to bring attention to the power of hypnosis in case of illness, I will gladly do so.
As I mentioned, the survival rate of this particular strand of cancer is extremely low, and to come out of this with a clean bill of health speaks volumes about what Positive Changes has to offer.
