My name is Becki Harp and I live in Boise, Idaho. I am a hairdresser. I have been a non-smoker for almost a year now. It only took me five days to become a non-smoker. I started smoking when I was 18, and I am 53 now, so I smoked for 35 years. I smoked at least a pack a day. I heard about Positive Changes through the newspaper. I stopped smoking and it was so easy. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I had six cigarettes left after my first personal session and it took me from Saturday to Thursday to smoke them. I felt very out of control before because I would get panicky if I couldn't have a cigarette when I wanted one. Now I don't care if I have a cigarette or not. There's just no want anymore. I think about it. Every now and then I think, "Oh, I can go out and have a cigarette now," and then I think, "Oh, no, I don't do that anymore." So it's good. Now I can walk on my treadmill without getting winded in the first 20 minutes which tells me I'm already healthier than I was when I smoked.
I have a lot more self-confidence since I quit smoking. I know I don't smell like them anymore. I don't worry about somebody looking at me like I am a horrible person. I was also kind of a closet smoker to where I didn't want a lot of people to know that I smoked. I would just hide and I don't have to do that anymore. I'm much more confident. The most important thing was that I quit smoking and I feel much better about myself because I did.
