Everything is Easier

Overweight and Uncomfortable

It feels as if I have been overweight forever. I played baseball in college and was in good shape but after I graduated, the healthy habits went out the window—of course I gained a ton of weight. Now that I think about it, I fought continuously to lose weight for 40 years!

I Felt Unattractive

When I was overweight and uncomfortable, I didn't feel good about myself. My golf game suffered miserably and I never felt good in my clothes—they were always too tight and I never felt comfortable or attractive.

Before Hypnosis, My Weight Yo-Yoed

I have dieted, lost weight and then gained the weight back year after year. I have been on that up and down, yo-yo diet for at least 25 years. I went to a hospital program with a dietician and she was great, but it was not sustainable for me. It was a typical diet without any lasting results. After I quit smoking in 1987, I gained 50 pounds. After that, I tried to exercise more and that helped improve my health but I didn't experience lasting weight loss. A true wake-up call was having bypass surgery in 1999—I knew then that I was out of control. I did lose some weight after surgery, but I never lost enough to make a dramatic improvement in my life.

I Would Go Back to My Old Habits

I was attempting to lose weight by dieting and "trying" to exercise when I saw the ad for Positive Changes Hypnosis. I had tried hypnosis before but had never seen a comprehensive program like this one. I knew hypnosis would work for me but what I had done in the past was not thorough—the others were one-shot sessions and it worked for a while, but eventually I would go back to my old habits. After I signed up and experienced my first session, I began to see changes in my behavior immediately. Before I started Positive Changes I would snack every night after dinner for no reason--I wasn't even hungry but it was a habit. I would eat ice cream sitting in front of the TV within an hour or two of dinner! Within a week of Positive Changes, I stopped drinking diet soda and snacking after dinner. During hypnosis I never felt out of control or that someone was controlling me. That's not what hypnosis is. Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation, almost meditation. Many times I actually would almost be asleep--I was in a different place. It was a great experience.

By the time I was about 2-3 months into my program, I found that a lot of the clothes in my closet were too big and I started throwing stuff away. I pulled out clothes that I had put away a long time ago, some of which I had never even worn because I had gained too much weight before I could, and they fit! That's when I knew that Positive Changes Hypnosis was really working for me. As I progressed, I blew through those big sizes really quickly and I had to take a lot of my clothes to the tailor to be fitted. Once I started having to get my suit coats fitted I was really excited. The biggest thing for me was the Memorial Day tournament at the end of May. I got to see people that I hadn't seen for a year. They were shocked by how much weight I had lost. They all said I looked great. In the fall of that same year, when I went to a baseball tournament, people actually thought I might be sick. I assured them I was fine and I told them what I was doing. They were all impressed.  

Nothing Tastes as Good as Thin Feels

My weight loss was not hard but I'm not a saint. I still drink and I enjoy my life, but I was able to stop the stress eating and the habit eating. That was the biggest thing. I was also able to cut my portion size. I also try to avoid certain foods like potatoes and bread. I still eat them but in much smaller quantities. I eat good amounts of protein. I even am able to substitute a meal with a protein shake or protein bar. I don't need to eat big, heavy meals anymore. I used to eat a lot of cereal and pancakes for breakfast. Now I know that I need to have some protein in the morning because I'm exercising more now. I exercised before Positive Changes but as my trainer told me, you can exercise 4 hours a day, but if you're eating the wrong stuff you're not going to lose weight. I have learned to cook with healthier ingredients such as using olive oil instead of butter. I have learned that good fats are good for me. So I eat a lot of nuts such as almonds. I make healthier choices and I don't have to force myself to do it. The changes come naturally. It's easy. Nothing tastes as good as thin and healthy feels. That's the main thing I've learned from my program at Positive Changes.

My Doctor is Thrilled!

I have noticed so many health improvements. My cardiologist took me off of 3 medications. I still have to be careful because of the surgery that I had but I'm reducing the amounts of medications that I still have to take. My cholesterol used to be high and now it's within more normal limits. My doctor is thrilled by my weight loss. When I told him what I was doing to lose the weight, I gave him Positive Changes' phone number and told him he should be recommending this program to his heart patients who have trouble losing weight. He had heard good things about the program so he was receptive to it.

Big Changes

I used to feel out of control with my eating habits but after hypnosis, I am totally in control. I've learned that just because certain foods are there, you don't have to eat them. That mentality really defeated me before. I had bad habits that I've been able to conquer and the awareness of not needing to eat when you're not hungry has been a big change for me. In fact, it has changed my life. Just because there is food around or just because I'm offered food doesn't mean I have to take it. I'm allowed to say no and that's been a big change for me.

Everyone around me can't help but notice the changes I've experienced. My wife is so happy with my results, that she became a client of Positive Changes herself.
