My name is Ruby DeRee. I live in Dublin, Ohio. I am a former middle school math teacher and seamstress. Now I take care of some of my grandchildren three days a week. I Was Absolutely Miserable

I have been struggling with my weight for 40 years. When I was 21, I married the love of my life. Unfortunately for me, my husband's family loved to eat. From the wedding on, I had a "weight problem." I was never comfortable being heavy. I couldn't envision living out my life heavy. I would get to the point where I wanted to change so I would go on a diet. I tried every diet out there. I did the cabbage soup thing and even went to a weight loss drug doctor. You name it, I did it; everything except surgery. I was a good dieter. I followed the rules and sometimes I would lose all of the weight. I came in for the free evaluation at Positive Changes and I was prepared to be weighed and measured and sat down in front of a chart --- that's how you start every weight loss program right? My evaluator came in, was very friendly and when I asked where the scales were, she smiled at me and said, "You have a scale at home, don't you? You can weigh yourself there. I believe that I am in control of my eating now. I don't even have to think about it. I automatically make healthy choices and I love it. My body and my mind are working together now like they are supposed to work. If I give my body what it wants, I get out of it what I want. When I choose, occasionally, to eat something like birthday cake or fried chicken it's different after hypnosis. The difference is that when I eat something like that I automatically go back to my healthy eating habits instead of spiraling out of control the way I used to. I know before Positive Changes that I was completely out of control. I would go from cookie dough to bags of chips. I felt like I had an eating disorder. Even though it is painful to think about, I really believe that I did. I didn't seem to be able to stop myself. It used to make me feel ashamed. I always felt like I had let myself down. Hypnosis has helped me stop eating between meals. I don't snack at night after dinner. I have other things to do now besides eat. It's wonderful. I go to bed and feel great. I sleep better now and I don't wake up crazy hungry. I drink a lot more water than I used to, which I think is really good for me. I've also cut back on drinking as much coffee as I used to. I just don't need it like I used to I guess.
