Hi, my name is Leon Abair. I'm retired and live in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts with my wife. I wasn't comfortable with my weight, but it just went on and on. I lost track of it because I wasn't paying attention. I was also a smoker, so that only added to my problems. Then I found Positive Changes. I quit smoking after 2 sessions and lost 153 lbs. in only 11 months! My pant size was 54 and I'm down to 35. This is by far the easiest weight-loss program I've ever tried. In terms of value for your dollar, Positive Changes is a great program. The people there are all just great. I still go there just because I enjoy the company.
I'd started smoking in high school and smoked all my life. I stopped several times for a week or two, but I'd go crazy and fight it. I was overweight for 10 years and my weight felt like a fact of life. I was a little out of control. There are some things you can change and some things you can't, and that just seemed to be one I couldn't. It's easy to say, 'Eat less and you'll lose weight, but if you've never had a weight problem, you don't know what it's like. Eating was a habit instead of a necessity. I was taking a massive dose of a cholesterol drug and my triglycerides were astronomical. Twenty-five years ago I lost weight with the point system, but as soon I stopped paying attention to it, I just put it right back on. I had a couple of heart attacks, which led to a by-pass surgery in '93. I lost weight after the surgery, but I also regained that weight.
I read about Positive Changes in a newspaper ad. I was curious, so I called up for an evaluation. I was a little leery of it to begin with, but I went in with an open mind and listened to what they had to say. I was really impressed with the free evaluation. Everything was explained well and I didn't feel any kind of sales pressure. The fee was reasonable. When you weigh it all out, it's not as excessive as other programs. If you join a diet program and have to buy their food and other products, it's far more expensive. I said, 'I'm going to give it a shot. Something good has got to come out of it' either I'm going to stop smoking or I'm going to lose weight. I never figured I would do both!
I noticed changes my first week and stopped smoking after my second session. I started thinking, if I believe everything they say, what the heck am I smoking for? I woke up one morning and threw my cigarettes away. I never smoked again and have no desire to. Hypnosis also helped me eliminate poor eating habits like bingeing. Before, food was a reward. I no longer think about eating between meals or doing a lot of snacking. I only eat when I'm hungry. I used to be a great sweet eater, but I no longer have cravings for sweets' I don't even miss them. I eat a great deal less and I eat the right things. I'm totally in control.
Before I started with Positive Changes, I couldn't cut my lawn or walk 100 feet without taking a rest. I cut my lawn just the other day. I went through the whole lawn in about 45 minutes instead of the 2-1/2 or 3 hours it used to take. I had a treadmill sitting around in my cellar for 10 years and it'd never been used. One day I dusted it off, greased it up and started to walk on it for 10 minutes, just to see what happened. Ten minutes turned into 15 and 15 turned into a mile. Now I run 5 miles every morning on the treadmill. It's amazing. I ride my bike every day. If I have to go to the bank or the grocery store, I take my bike. It's a great feeling.
I never paid much attention to the fact that I was losing weight. I stayed with the program and I just lost. I didn't set a specific goal of how long it was going to take to lose my weight, but it seemed so quick. I reached my goal around Christmas of 2004. I'm no longer taking cholesterol medication, and my triglycerides have dropped into normal categories. I no longer mind going to the doctor.
I make 100% better use of my time. As it turns out, I'm ahead of the game financially because it cost me less to go to Positive Changes than it did to smoke. I no longer spend money on cigarettes. I also don't go out and eat extravagantly like I used to. I was a gourmet eater; I went to the nicest restaurants and spent the biggest bucks. I no longer desire to do that.
My friends think my weight loss is fantastic. I'm very happy with my accomplishment. I'm proud of what I've done, because I believe if you want something to happen, you've got to make happen. I'm going to take care of me and do things for me'¦like running on my treadmill. I don't do it for the guy next door or for anybody else; that is my gift to myself. My reward for doing all that is the fact that I can feel good about myself' and I feel great! I also feel good about the people who helped me get where I am. The people at the center were always there to encourage me, and that's what makes the difference.
Positive Changes certainly was a smart investment. It's such a great program. You can't call it a diet. You feel great about what you're learning and, if you put it to use, it works. There's no magic bullet to losing weight, but the people at Positive Changes are really there to help you. If you listen to what they say, you're going to benefit. The good thing about Positive Changes is that it makes you aware of what you're doing. It's a lifestyle. I've also used hypnosis in a lot of different ways. I can take any problem I've got and use hypnosis to solve it. I'd recommend it to anybody. There's no question in my mind that it's safe, because you're always in control.

If you put into practice what you're learning with hypnosis, it'll work. I'm satisfied with my results. It's hard to say what the most important benefit was because here are so many things that happened during my program that just make life worth living. It's a wonderful program and the people are fantastic. Feeling great about yourself, losing weight and being able to do so much more' it's just a great thing!
